LSU Health Shreveport Faculty Recognized Among World's Top 2% Scientists
Shreveport, La. – Sixteen current and former LSU Health Shreveport researchers have been recognized in Stanford University's prestigious World's Top 2% Scientists List, an annual ranking that identifies the most influential researchers across the globe based on the impact of their scholarly work.
The internationally recognized database, developed by researchers at Stanford University and published in partnership with Elsevier, evaluates citation impact across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields. The rankings assess the work of millions of scientists worldwide and identify those whose research has had the greatest influence within their disciplines.
Of the 16 LSU Health Shreveport-affiliated researchers recognized this year, 11 are active faculty members currently advancing discovery, innovation and patient care at the institution. Five additional honorees are retired or emeritus faculty whose research continues to shape scientific understanding and earn citations years after their active service, demonstrating the enduring impact of their contributions.
“We are incredibly happy to share the news of our highly cited research scientists at LSU Health Shreveport," said Lester W. Johnson, MD, FACS, LSUHS Senior Vice Chancellor. "Their attainment of this rank serves as a reminder of the nationally recognized expertise and caliber of our faculty.”
The researchers recognized on the 2026 World's Top 2% Scientists List represent a broad range of disciplines, including otolaryngology, neuroscience, molecular physiology, pathology, anesthesiology, pediatrics, pharmacology, biochemistry and microbiology.
"Our research enterprise is experiencing unprecedented momentum, driven by the recruitment of exceptional research faculty, expanding collaborations and groundbreaking discoveries with the potential to transform human health,” said Oren Rom, PhD, LSUHS Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research. “This international recognition reflects the outstanding caliber of our scientists and the growing impact of LSU Health Shreveport research on the global scientific community."
According to the Stanford-Elsevier methodology, rankings are based on standardized citation indicators that measure both career-long and recent research impact. Inclusion in the database places researchers among the most influential scientists worldwide, reflecting the extent to which their published work has informed and advanced subsequent scientific discoveries.
