Film Prize Junior Showcasing Its Strongest Group of Student Films on Record

Film Prize Junior, the statewide short film program and competition for Louisiana students, returns this year from April 24 through April 26. The festival, presented by the Prize Foundation and Louisiana Economic Development, Noel Foundation and Franks Foundation will be part of the Artbreak Festival at the Shreveport Convention Center.

This year, Film Prize Junior will feature 115 student films from 64 schools and programs across Louisiana, including 31 Title I schools, underscoring the program’s striving to allow all kids to participate. Audiences will experience these films firsthand during in-person screenings, where students, families, and film lovers alike can cast their votes for Audience Choice favorites.

“We are incredibly proud of all the students and teachers who made this our best year ever,” said Gregory Kallenberg, co-founder of Film Prize Junior. “Film Prize Junior is helping these kids find their path to success, and I’m appreciative of these kids and their efforts. I’m also appreciative of Team Film Prize Junior who makes this important program possible.”

Film Prize Junior stands apart as a nationally unique, no-cost program open to middle and high school students across Louisiana. More than just a competition, it’s a year-round creative entrepreneurship program that offers mentorship, hands-on workshops, and experience in storytelling, production, and marketing of their film to attract the audience’s votes for best film.

During the festival, student filmmakers will be able to connect with one another and compete for equipment grants for their schools. Highlights include Production Island, an interactive exhibit where students gain hands-on experience with professional mentors and filmmaking gear, and a Red Carpet event, where participants can celebrate their films like the celebrities they are. All the events for teachers and students are free to attend.

Awards will be held on April 26, and they will recognize both middle and high school filmmakers, including Judges’ Choice and Audience Choice, along with Best of Genre honors in Animation, Comedy, Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Thriller, and Documentary, plus Best Poster Design. Winners will be announced during the April 26 ceremony at the Shreveport Convention Center.
