STRIKEWERX News
Dec. 2-6: STRIKEWERX joined the Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) and IoT/AI to demonstrate new, innovative alerting technology incorporated into a uniform badge at the Secretary of Defense symposium in Washington, D.C. Multiple contacts were established to support testing the technology, including the U.S. Transportation Command and the Secretary of the Air Force for Operational Energy.
Dec. 3: STRIKEWERX hosted a meeting between multiple major commands, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Operational Energy office, and Specular Theory to discuss the future of the B-52 air refueling virtual reality (VR) trainer prototype. The Air Education and Training Command is set to purchase four new trainers due to energy savings associated with fewer flights required for students to gain proficiency.
Dec. 3-5: STRIKEWERX hosted a Design Sprint for the Dyess Air Force Base B-1 fuels team to develop a rough prototype that would prevent Airmen’s exposure to jet fuel during fuel sampling. STRIKEWERX is now seeking a vendor to produce a minimum viable prototype for further testing.
Dec. 5: Dr. Lindsay Gouedy, of Louisiana Tech University and a former Global Strike National Security Fellow, and STRIKEWERX project champion Lt. Col. Brandon Wolf briefed two papers at the Industry Interservice Training Education Conference on the effectiveness of VR training in teaching B-52 air refueling. Data from four classes found the air refueling trainers are saving 1-2 sorties per student, per class, for a savings of $10 million in bomber and tanker flying hours per class.
Dec. 11: STRIKEWERX is supporting a new project to improve the loading of munitions on the B-52. This project seeks to refine how Airmen load munitions onto aircraft by updating the loader currently in service with a kit to make it less labor-intensive and time consuming, while increasing reliability and safety.
Dec. 13: Shreveport-based company, Praeses, delivered the Bomber Generation Tracking and Analysis project to AFGSC with a virtual training session and sustainment plan. This project developed software to modernize and standardize the process of how bomber aircraft are prepared to take off for combat.
Jan. 2: The Cyber Innovation Center (CIC) has contracted with Celina Tent to produce a prototype shelter for maintainers working on the Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) Antenna. Celina, the Air Force, and STRIKEWERX collaborated to develop a dual, inflatable, tent-like structure that can be placed around the AEHF Antenna.
Jan. 14-15: The CIC supported a steering group hosted by the AFGSC Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Modernization directorate to transfer knowledge between leaders in the ICBM community with the goal of ensuring effective modernization efforts.
The Air Force Global Strike Command Portal, created by the CIC Development team, is a new platform that hosts multiple software capabilities and utilizes Global Strike Command data to support modernization efforts for the command.
Upcoming Events
The Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications Weapons System Review hosted by the AFGSC Plans and Requirements Directorate will be held at the CIC from Feb 24-28. Attendees include the U.S. Strategic Command, U.S. European Command, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, and Space Force among others and university partners.
The AFGSC Consortium for Digital Innovation (CDI) will host its next session at the CIC from March 11-13 with a focus on data analytics. The CDI provides Airmen the opportunity to learn, share information, and contribute to new research.
