Construction Progresses on Jimmie Davis Bridge Replacement; Medical Drive Access Affected

BOSSIER PARISH, La. — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced continued progress on the Jimmie Davis Bridge replacement project, with active construction underway on the LA 511 (Jimmie Davis Highway) approaches.

As part of this phase, motorists should expect intermittent closures of the northbound and southbound entrances of Medical Drive over the next two months. The temporary closures will accommodate pipe installation associated with the widening and realignment of LA 511.

Work is also ongoing at the site of the new four-lane bridge over the Red River, which is being constructed directly north of the existing two-lane structure. Foundation work continues, alongside substantial earthwork to shape new on- and off-ramps for the future bridge.

Additional elements of Phase 1 include:

  • Construction of raised medians along LA 511
  • Revisions to the current median barrier on Arthur Ray Teague Parkway at the bridge
  • Installation of new median openings designed for future U-turn access

Alternating lane closures along the LA 511 approaches are expected to continue throughout construction. DOTD urges drivers to remain alert and observe posted signage in the work zones.

The Jimmie Davis Bridge project is expected to be completed by mid to late 2027, pending weather conditions and other factors.
