Louisiana's Veteran Initiative is a certification program aimed at helping eligible veteran-owned and service-connected disabled veteran-owned small businesses in Louisiana access more purchasing and contracting opportunities with state government. State agencies are encouraged to seek quotes from and engage qualified veteran-certified companies whenever possible. Once certified, information about these companies is made available to state purchasing agents and prime contractors looking for certified subcontractors.

For purchases under $25,000, state agencies can waive the requirement for additional quotes if a certified company submits a reasonable quote. Additionally, a company bidding for a state contract can improve its request for proposal (RFP) evaluation score by becoming certified in the program or utilizing a certified veteran-owned company as a subcontractor.
