BPCC’s Division of Business and Information Technology Expands NOW Initiative with Lyft Pass, New Course Options

As part of BPCC's Nights, Online, and Weekends (NOW) initiative, the Business and Information Technology (BIT) Division has introduced evening and weekend courses to offer BIT students more flexible scheduling options.

To help overcome barriers like transportation and availability, BPCC is launching the Lyft Pass initiative, providing BIT students with convenient transportation to attend evening and weekend classes.

In addition, students can now earn a Career and Technical Certificate in Customer Service through courses such as Customer Service Skills and Computer Concepts, gaining industry-recognized credentials like the Microsoft Office Suite Industry-Based Credential, Internet and Computing Core Certification, and National Retail Federation Customer Service Credential. BPCC has partnered with local restaurants, casinos, and retail businesses to encourage their employees to enroll in these courses.

"During my recent meetings with students, many expressed significant concerns about the lack of public transportation options. Accessible solutions, like Lyft Pass, are essential for overcoming these barriers,” said Quentin Calhoun, Dean of Business and Information Technology. “The NOW initiative is making a real difference by ensuring that all students can attend in-person classes without the stress of transportation challenges.”

BPCC is expanding in-person learning options to meet student demand. New offerings include Business Math and courses that lead to a Career and Technical Certificate in Computer Repair. Students can take Info Technology Principles and Skills for IT Success on Tuesdays, and IT Hardware Support and IT Software Support on Saturdays. These courses prepare students for industry certifications like Tech+ and A+, with certification exams integrated into the program.

BPCC’s expanded offerings through the NOW initiative aim to equip students with skills and certifications that enhance their career prospects in high-demand fields.
